The collages in this exhibition are an overview of Johnson’s intellectual relationship with Jackson Pollock, as well as an introduction to Johnson’s own idiosyncratic and wildly original process of art making. Like Pollock, he was a pioneer of process, building on ideas absorbed from art history, but pushing the boundaries right off the edge of the canvas – or cardboard, in Johnson’s case.
