Ray Johnson: Correspondences presents multiple perspectives on the collages, correspondence art and performance events of an artist who made it his life’s work to confound. Like the anthropological figure of the trickster, Johnson’s works are slippery, elusive, difficult to pin down. This is their sly delight.
Excerpt by Donna De Salvo and Catherine Gudis as published in the exhibition catalogue.
This exhibition later traveled to the Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, where it was shown from September 17-December 31, 2000.
